Game Recap

Tartan, behind fourth year netminder Cary Wood, kept the game close on the scoreboard despite its territorial lopsidedness in favor of Hill-Murray. Tartan is now 7-2; Hill-Murray is 5-0.

Hill-Murray grabbed an early lead when Bo Dolan intercepted a clearing pass at the blue line and sent the puck back on goal. Dan Cecka quickly jammed in the rebound.

The Pioneers almost scored again a minute later when Nick Larson hit the left post on a 2-on-1, had the puck come right back to him and shot it into Wood.

Hill-Murray put 17 shots on goal in the first period, the last coming when Jeff Westerhaus ripped a 40-foot shot through Wood's legs for his third goal in as many games.

Larson made it 3-0 early in the second. He took a long pass from Dan Sova at the blue line, and, just as in the first period, came up the left side on a 2-on-1. But this time his shot went off Wood's shoulder and into the net.

Wood was spectacular the rest of the way, getting his large frame in front of most of the Pioneer shot barrage and making several good leg saves on shots from close range. This gave Tartan a chance to get back in the game and they did. A bad line change gave Ryan Abrahamson a partial breakaway, and his shot from 20 feet sailed over McEnaney's glove.

Tartan edged within one with ten seconds left in the period, when Tyler Rick's shot from the right point flutterred off the far post and in.

The line of Isaac Kohls, Delaney Metcalf, and Dan Cecka created opportunities the whole game, and scored a big insurance goal midway through the third, when Cecka broke up the left side and sent a goalmouth pass that Kohls directed in.

Those two nearly teamed up for another goal four minutes later, but Kohls' backhand from close range hit the crossbar.

Tartan called timeout with a minute to go and tried in vain to pull Wood, but Hill-Murray did not allow any further scoring chances to secure a 4-2 victory.
