Game Recap

Eight unanswered goals followed a three-goal comeback by North St. Paul in the second period, and Hill-Murray reached double digits for the third consecutive game in an 11-3 win. Dan Cecka scored three goals and Monte French added two more for the Pioneers.

Cecka opened the scoring on Hill-Murray's only full power play of the game. A good bounce off a deflection of Bo Dolan's point shot put the puck right on Cecka's stick at the bottom of the right circle, and Cecka buried it while Tom Horner was out of position. Less than two minutes later, Lou Metcalf went to the net and knocked in another point shot to make it 2-0.

Cecka and Tyler Zepeda worked a 2-on-0 break for a shorthanded goal, and Hill-Murray entered the first intermission with a comfortable 3-0 lead.

North St. Paul caught fire after an early second period goal. Josh Stewart was stopped point-blank by Joe Phillippi, but scored on a rebound of a point shot several seconds later. Adam Slagle scored off a goal-mouth scramble at 5:59, and Ryan Anderson was left all alone in front for a setup from behind the net for the tying goal at 7:07.

Nineteen seconds later, Hill-Murray resumed the lead as Dave Cascalenda scored off a feed from Paul Prescott. Then Monte French took the puck from the left corner and patiently waited as Horner came out to cut the angle, eventually wristing a shot into an open net.

With the score 5-3, Phillippi caught the Polars on a hasty line change, making a long clearing pass that Dan Sova tipped ahead to Andy Singerhouse. Singerhouse led a 4-on-0 rush and scored himself. Tyler Zepeda's shorthanded wraparound goal finished the scoring in a wild second period.

The third period saw the Pioneers extend their lead with four more goals. Cecka completed his second hat trick in a row, and Isaac Kohls scored with one second remaining on a Hill-Murray penalty, giving the Pioneers three shorthanded goals in this game and eight in their past three.
