2016-2017 Hill-Murray Hockey Section 4AA Champion Metro East Champion
-
For the fourth consecutive season, Hill-Murray and Stillwater played for the Section 4AA title. Stillwater had another strong season at 22-3 and took the #1 seed, but Hill-Murray reclaimed the section crown with a 6-3 win.
- Jake Begley dazzled protecting the nets, was named the state's top goalie, and finished with the school's all-time best career save percentage.
- This was the first Hill-Murray team to tie three games in a season, and it took just eight games to do it. They finished with four ties, a mark that would be tied again in 2018.
-
Unlike the previous two seasons, there was a carousel for the state #1 ranking, which was briefly held by Hill-Murray when they lost just once in their first 17 games. Grand Rapids won the state title after being seeded fourth in their section. Moorhead finished second which tied them with Hill-Murray for most all-time runner-up finishes with eight.
-
Hill-Murray split the two conference games against STA for the fourth consecutive year, and again won the Metro East outright because Mahtomedi defeated STA. STA won the rubber match in the state consolation semi, the first postseason head-to-head between the schools since the 1965 State Catholic Tourney.
